Wines & Vines | South America

Wines & Vines | South America

Ah everyone’s favorite topic…or at least ours. It’s always important to embrace the customs of other cultures while traveling, including partaking in local food & drink. So, in the name of good travelers & to ensure we were thorough in our research for the blog, we forced ourselves to indulge the various wine regions along our route through South America.

Costa Verde | Brazil

Costa Verde | Brazil

Thank goodness for small island towns & sandy beaches. After the “controlled” chaos & late nights that was Rio’s Carnival, a few quiet days of sun & surf was exactly what we needed. To recoup, we hopped a ride out to Brazil’s Costa Verde (the Green Coast), a stretch of coastline between the Rio de Janeiro state, to Santos, São Paulo state. This was my idea of Brazil.

Rio de Janeiro | Brazil

As anyone knows, first impressions matter & Brazil, specifically Rio, made quite the first impression at Carnival.  Ben had traveled to Brazil 5 years earlier & loved it, & he couldn’t wait to be back & show me everything he enjoyed. Rio, a city known for its spectacular landscape & culture, proved itself to transform for this annual celebration into a beast of its own.  To be fair it is Carnival, not exactly the picture of a quiet peaceful city. We expected it to be a bit of a madhouse, you know with Murphy’s law & all if something were to go awry it was going to be in Rio. We went in prepared.

Iguazú Falls | Argentina & Brazil

¡Hola! In case you’ve noticed…yes we're a bit behind with our post, to busy playing in waterfalls & monkeys. It’s hard to top Antarctica, nothing could ever compare to its beautiful landscapes or delightful inhabitants, & just the fact that we reached can’t really be topped…except maybe the moon? But our next stop, Iguazú Falls, you get an entirely different side of the worlds beauty.

It’s easy to see what continue to draw so many visitors to the area & why Iguazú was chosen as one of the 7 Wonders of the World in 2011. It’s reported that, on an official visit, Eleanor Roosevelt gazed at the falls & exclaimed “poor Niagara!”.

In today's post we have compiled our list of suggestions & our top 5 “T”s for Buenos Aires, hope you enjoy!

Patagonia | Chile

While we will try, our words & pictures could never describe Torres del Paine’s sheer awesomeness, in the purest sense of the word. Driving up to the park for the first time, we got a glimpse of what everybody told us was some of the most amazing sights we would ever see.  The mountains can only be described as “beautiful anger”, somewhat akin to the Grand Tetons but on a larger scale. It’s a place where you feel the world could end yet these giants would survive.

Patagonia | Chile

I'm almost embarrassed to admit it now but we almost didn't go to Patagonia at all. I know how crazy that sounds so I'll just let that sink in for a moment - were crazy. However at the time it seemed too far to travel & to much of an expense for us. We figured Patagonia was a destination we'd be sure to get back to. Well most likely we would have been wrong because it is far & it's not cheap, at best it would have been years before we'd attempt to go again & with all our new friends admonishing us (You HAVE to go to Patagonia!!) we don't regret it for a minute easily the best thing we've done thus far, maybe ever.
