Mostar | Bosnia & Hercegovina

Mostar | Bosnia & Hercegovina

“Watch out for unexploded landmines”. We were lightly warned at our hostel before setting out on a quick hike on the outskirts of Mostar. Of all the things I had feared may happen to us traveling the world, I must admit, landmines hadn't crossed my mind. Perhaps that was naive. Mostar may not have a wall, but it is as divided as Berlin ever was. Who knows what the future will hold?

Plitviče Lakes | Croatia

Plitviče Lakes | Croatia

Pristine, natural & untouched beauty. Words that easily describe Plitviče Lakes National Park in the middle of Croatia. You could easily spend hours trekking across the lower & upper lakes, 16 in total, or take one of the several ferries that connect the various park entrances. It’s a serene place to sit & reflect on the grandness of nature in one the region’s most beautiful natural attraction. A reminder of how wonderful the world can be.

Belgrade | Serbia

Belgrade | Serbia

You can come to Belgrade for the beautiful river, the famous fort or its well-known party scene, but our recommendation is to come & get to know the people, their stories & for your own understanding - the only way to find truth is to see it for yourself. But their story comes with a warning & those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Road Trip | Romania

Road Trip | Romania

This is how I wound up in the passenger seat of the tiniest little Renault Clio grasping the “oh s***” handle, rolling back & forth around curves & being launched over bumps. Romania was quite literally a wild ride…we had no idea the countryside would be like this. It is one of the most gorgeous countries we’ve ever seen, & one of the most scenic drives we’ve ever had. Landscapes are almost indescribable, rolling hills of lush green, deep valleys & soaring peaks. Every time we turned an s-curve or crested another peak, it was some breathtaking view.

Budapest | Hungary

Budapest | Hungary

Budapest was everything we had heard about & more, making it incredibly memorable. In a way it reminded me of NY, not the flashy pretty Manhattan part, but the gritty, old 19th-20th century parts. Dark & brooding buildings which, for some reason, always inspire more in me than the artful & colored ones of other European cities. Maybe that's why I immediately felt at home walking the streets.

Bratislava | Slovakia

Bratislava | Slovakia

We went from overly fancy Vienna to much less fancy Bratislava. Our first thoughts rolling in on the train station left something to be desired. Bratislava is only an hour train ride from Vienna, plenty of day trips for sightseers are offered, but couldn’t feel more worlds apart.  We saw & heard a lot of hope from our local guides, one saying she thinks things will be very different even in just a few years from now. She hopes & urges everyone to come back & see what the future has brought to Bratislava.

Vienna | Austria

Vienna | Austria

There are few places as awe inspiring as Vienna. For weeks we had traveled various Central European countries, learning of the Hapsburg Monarchy, their incredibly long reign & far reaching Austrian Empire (& we would continue to hear for another several weeks); but once in Vienna, these far off legends became real.

Salzburg | Austria

The HILLS are alive, with the sound of music…”

I am going to be completely honest with you – we came to Salzburg for one reason & one reason only - “The Sound of Music” aka the story of the von Trapp Family. To say there’s a small obsession with the film is not an exaggeration & I happily count myself amongst the millions of people who know most every word to the movie’s songs. If you don’t believe me, you can ask Ben who endured my singing for roughly 2.5 days straight.

Prague | Czech Republic

Prague | Czech Republic

If Prague was ever under the radar, it is not anymore. Throughout the weeks we’ve spent crisscrossing through Europe, we’ve visited many incredible places, beautiful towns & lush cities. Its as if the entire continent is a fairytale with its long histories & exquisite architecture; but without a doubt Prague has been my favorite city so far.
