Thank goodness for small island towns & sandy beaches. After the “controlled” chaos & late nights that was Rio’s Carnival, a few quiet days of sun & surf was exactly what we needed. To recoup, we hopped a ride out to Brazil’s Costa Verde (the Green Coast), a stretch of coastline between the Rio de Janeiro state, to Santos, São Paulo state. This was my idea of Brazil.

As anyone knows, first impressions matter & Brazil, specifically Rio, made quite the first impression at Carnival.  Ben had traveled to Brazil 5 years earlier & loved it, & he couldn’t wait to be back & show me everything he enjoyed. Rio, a city known for its spectacular landscape & culture, proved itself to transform for this annual celebration into a beast of its own.  To be fair it is Carnival, not exactly the picture of a quiet peaceful city. We expected it to be a bit of a madhouse, you know with Murphy’s law & all if something were to go awry it was going to be in Rio. We went in prepared.

Iguazú Falls | Argentina & Brazil

¡Hola! In case you’ve noticed…yes we're a bit behind with our post, to busy playing in waterfalls & monkeys. It’s hard to top Antarctica, nothing could ever compare to its beautiful landscapes or delightful inhabitants, & just the fact that we reached can’t really be topped…except maybe the moon? But our next stop, Iguazú Falls, you get an entirely different side of the worlds beauty.

It’s easy to see what continue to draw so many visitors to the area & why Iguazú was chosen as one of the 7 Wonders of the World in 2011. It’s reported that, on an official visit, Eleanor Roosevelt gazed at the falls & exclaimed “poor Niagara!”.
